Oct. 10, 2010

Box Score

SHREVEPORT, La. - Senior team captain Dani Haelewyn scored twice, including the match-winner, to lead the Oakland University women's soccer team (7-4-2, 3-0-1) to a 5-0 victory over Centenary (3-8, 0-3) in Summit League play on Sunday at Mayo Field. The win extends Oakland's eight-match unbeaten streak and is the sixth win for the team during the unbeaten run.

"It was a good performance for the entire game, which is a credit to the players because it was a hot day," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "We moved the ball well and scored some nice goals."

Haelewyn scored twice on long-range shots in the first half to put OU ahead for good. Haelewyn's first goal came in the 13th minute from 18 yards out and was assisted by junior Sarah Lynch. She created her own chance on the second goal, which was from nearly 20 yards away.

Sophomore Marlen Knoph added to the lead in the 43rd minute when she took a through-pass from junior Amy Trandell and dribbled past the goalkeeper to score. The Golden Grizzlies outshot the Ladies 20-4 in the first half and 36-5 for the match.

Lynch picked up a goal of her own less than three minutes into the second half, when she scored on an assist from freshman Serena San Cartier. Sophomore Nicole DeLuca, who came into the match leading the Summit League in goals scored, notched her eighth goal of the season in the 52nd minute to close out the scoring for the Golden Grizzlies.

Freshman Payj O'Shea earned her first collegiate shutout, in the match, but did not have to make a save as OU earned a 20-0 edge in shots on goal. The Ladies' starting goalkeeper Kalyn Harris had 10 saves, while backup Haleigh Coffey made five stops.

Oakland will host Michigan State in its next match on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the OU Soccer Field. Admission to the match is free, but fans that are unable to attend can follow along with the live stats at OUGrizzlies.com.
