ELMHURST, Ill. - With the fall semester in the books, Oakland's University has placed 62 student-athletes on the Academic All-League team for the fall season, as announced by The Summit League Wednesday. A total of 511 Summit League student-athletes from men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and volleyball have been honored for their academic excellence.
Western Illinois led the way with a league-best 63 selections to the Academic All-Summit League squad, edging out Oakland and IUPUI by one and two honorees, respectively. Centenary landed 52 student-athletes on the list with North Dakota State having 50 recipients. IPFW and Oral Roberts each secured 48 members to the team, narrowly ahead of South Dakota State's 47. UMKC (41 recipients) and Southern Utah (39 recipients) also had student-athletes recognized for their academic achievements. Of the 511 student-athletes that were honored, 70 posted perfect 4.00 grade-point averages during the fall semester.
"I believe this is a testament to the commitment our student-athletes have to their primary goal of attaining a degree from Oakland University," said Director of Athletics Tracy Huth. "The results can be directly attributed to the time and energy that our student-athletes, staff and coaches put forth in the pursuit of academic excellence. Anyone that follows Oakland Athletics will recognize the consistency of academic achievement that our student-athletes attain every semester. This is the accomplishment for which we take the most pride in intercollegiate athletics."
In order to be selected to the Academic All-Summit League Team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 or better grade-point average in the semester in which they compete and must use a year of eligibility.
