ROCHESTER, Mich. - Senior Adrienne Leone turned in a 13-kill effort, freshman Meghan Bray added 10 kills, and sophomore Ashley Nevelle dished out 28 assists as the Oakland University volleyball team (5-1) rolled to a 3-0 victory over Canisius (1-6) in the final match of the Golden Grizzly Invitational on Sunday at the Athletics Center O'Rena.
The Golden Grizzlies earned a second-place finish in the tourney by virtue of their 2-1 record over the weekend. Wright State (3-0) won the inaugural tournament championship.
The Golden Grizzlies won 25-15, 25-22, and 25-13 to seal the sweep. Oakland hit .314 for the match, while holding Canisius to an .048 hitting percentage. The Golden Grizzlies also turned in 10 team blocks, led by Jenna Lange, who turned in four assisted blocks. Brittany Dunn anchored the back line with 16 digs.
Nevelle and Bray were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Golden Grizzlies, who will open Summit League play this coming week as they travel to UMKC on Thursday, Sept. 10, and face Southern Utah on Saturday, Sept. 12. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts.
