Men's Soccer Releases 2009 Schedule

May 12, 2009

Complete Schedule

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Non-conference games against NCAA College Cup contenders Ohio State University, Dayton, Loyola (Ill.), Northwestern and Michigan, two tournaments and three games at the Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac, Mich. highlight the 2009 Oakland University men's soccer schedule, as released by head coach Eric Pogue on Tuesday.

"We are excited about the opportunity to defend our 2008 Summit League championship and NCAA Tournament appearance against such a competitive schedule with six teams that were in the 2008 NCAA College Cup and 11 away games," said Pogue, who enters his first year as head coach after serving eight seasons as an assistant. "The non-conference schedule should give us a good opportunity to challenge us heading into the always competitive Summit League season. The 2009 schedule will be a challenging test for our young Oakland team."

The 2009 regular season begins with away games against UAB (Sept. 1) and SIU Edwardsville (Sept. 4), before returning to OU for their home opener against Dayton at the Ultimate Soccer Arena (Sept. 6). The Golden Grizzlies will also play Michigan (Sept. 30) and IUPUI (Oct. 17) at the facility.

Oakland will also take part in two tournaments, with the Northern Illinois University adidas/Magnuson Inn and Suites Invitational on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 11-13 and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Panther Invitational on Friday-Sunday, Sept. 18-20.

The Golden Grizzlies will open up league play on Friday, Sept. 25 with a home tilt against Oral Roberts. Once again, Oakland University will play host to the 2009 Summit League Tournament, which will take place Friday-Sunday, Nov. 13-15 at the OU Soccer Field.
