Bison Complete Series Sweep Over Golden Grizzlies, 5-1

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior Jessica Granger (10-10) tossed a complete game, giving up nine hits, five runs and four earned runs, and sophomore Marisa Everitt went 1-for-1, driving in the only run for Oakland University, as the Golden Grizzlies (13-22, 6-9) fell to North Dakota State University (22-13, 11-1), 5-1, on Saturday at the Jane Sage Cowles Softball Stadium.

Also tallying hits for the Grizzlies was senior Caitlin Lynch (1-3), freshman Kylie Schalz (1-3) and senior Roberta Ches (1-2). NDSU's Andi Padilla (16-7) went the distance, allowing four hits, one earned run and fanned nine.

Senior Kelly Cantrell broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run home run to left-center field, her fourth of the season, to give the Bison a 2-0 lead.

NDSU scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth inning as freshman Taylor Mortensen doubled down the left field line, and scored on a sacrifice bunt that OU misplayed at first base to allow the base runner to cruise into home plate as the Golden Grizzlies fell down 3-0.

Lynch doubled to right-center field in the top of the sixth inning, advanced to third base on a long fly out by Schalz and scored on a pinch-hit RBI single by Everitt to slice into the Bison lead, 3-1.

NDSU scored two more runs in the sixth inning on RBI hits by freshman Breanna Konz and a double by Mortenson as the Golden Grizzlies went down by four runs, 5-1, after six innings of play.

OU scored one run, on four hits and committed two errors, while NDSU had five runs, nine hits and had two errors.

The Golden Grizzlies will host IPFW in Summit League action this Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14-15, at the OU Softball Field. The two teams will play a single game on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
