CLINTON, S.C. - Sophomore Marisa Everitt (1-1) was the tough-luck loser in game two, giving up no earned runs in 6.0 strong innings, striking out a career-high 10, while sophomore right fielder Alyssa Deacon was 5-for-7 on the day, with one stolen base and one run scored as Presbyterian College (5-5) ended Oakland University's (4-7) four-game winning streak with 6-2 and 3-2 wins on Wednesday at the PC Softball Complex.
Senior third baseman Caitlin Lynch and junior center fielder Anne Cicchini each drove in a run for the Golden Grizzlies in the opener, going 1-for-3. Lynch and senior left fielder Roberta Ches drove in runs for OU in the nightcap. Senior Jessica Granger (2-4) had a rough outing in game one, tossing all 6.0 innings, giving up 10 hits, six runs, six earned runs, but managed to strike out 10.
OU jumped out on top early with a run in the top of the first inning on a RBI single up the middle by Lynch. The Blue Hose wasted little time responding, pushing four runs across in the bottom half of the inning on a three-run home run by Taylor Staten and a RBI double by Laura Tate Owings.
Presbyterian tacked on another run in the second inning on a Staten RBI single as the score moved to 5-1. Cicchini doubled to right field to plate the final run for the Golden Grizzlies in the opener.
OU scored two runs, on seven hits and committed two errors, while PC scored six runs, on 10 hits and had one error.
Game two was a pitcher's duel between OU's Everitt and PC's Mary Gordon as neither team had a run through five innings. The Blue Hose took advantage of a Grizzly error with two outs as Leslie Hensley and Katie Anderson smacked back-to-back homers to score three runs as OU went down by a count of 3-0.
The Golden Grizzlies fought back in the top of the seventh inning. Freshman shortstop Kylie Schalz started with a single and Deacon singled after a strikeout to put runners at first and second. Senior second baseman Julie Owen was hit-by-a-pitch to load the bases and Lynch walked with the bases loaded to score the first run. Ches followed with a ground out at second base to score the second run, but a strikeout followed as the Grizzlies stranded two in scoring position and fell by one run.
Oakland scored two runs, on six hits and committed two errors, while PC tallied three runs, four hits and no errors.
The Golden Grizzlies will take on Erskine College (10-7) on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader in Due West, S.C. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
