Oakland Falls on the Road to IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Senior Lindsey Blair notched her first goal of the season, but it was not enough as the Oakland University (7-8-1, 4-3-1 Summit) women's soccer team fell 3-1 to IUPUI (14-4, 6-2 Summit) Friday evening at Carroll Stadium. The Golden Grizzlies can clinch a spot in the league tournament with a win against Western Illinois on Nov. 1.

The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. and can be followed via live stats at www.ougrizzlies.com.

IUPUI scored first as Stephanie Hoffman banged in a free kick just 3:41 into the contest. With 13:53 to go in the first half, Oakland was awarded a free kick. Blair teed off and ricochet her shot off a defender and into the net to tie the contest at 1-1. A minute later, Alicia Brock scored in traffic to put IUPUI back on top 2-1.

With 11:46 to go in the half, junior Dani Haelewyn broke free and ripped a shot at the right corner. Jamie Farrell dove through the air and knocked the ball away. With just under seven minutes left, sophomore Deanna Colarossi made a nice header that Farrell was just able to get to.

In the second half, Farrell made great saves on shots by sophomore Amy Trandell and freshmen Katie Bramble and Marlen Knoph. The Jaguars scored an insurance goal at the 76.50 mark.

Oakland had 17 shots, six corner kicks, seven fouls and three saves while IUPUI had 12 shots, 11 corner kicks, seven fouls and nine saves.
