Oct. 11, 2009

Box Score

FARGO, N.D. - Freshman Leanne Fomenko scored her second goal of the season as the Oakland University women's soccer team (5-7, 2-2 Summit) fell 2-1 to North Dakota State (6-5-2, 3-0 Summit League) Sunday afternoon. For the second straight game, the Golden Grizzlies played in tough weather conditions as temperatures were in the low 30's and there were snow flurries throughout the game.

At the 31:17 mark, junior Meghan Hartwig delivered a perfect cross pass to the left side of the net. Fomenko settled the ball and ripped it past the North Dakota State goalie to close the gap to 2-1. Sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Coley recorded three saves to give her 20 total over the last two games.

North Dakota State got off to a quick start as Brooklyn Dyce found the back of the net, just 5:24 into the contest. Six minutes later, Quin Ryan scored off a cross pass to make it 2-0.

Oakland and North Dakota State both played outstanding defense in the second half as there was only one shot on goal by both teams combined. For the game Oakland had 15 shots, three saves and four corner kicks while NDSU had 11 shots, five saves and three corners.

Oakland is off until Friday, Oct. 16, when they return to the friendly confines of the OU Soccer Field to take on Centenary. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
