ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland University softball team tallied 36 hits over the weekend and swept Oakland Community College, 5-0 and 9-0 on Saturday, and U-M Dearborn, 10-4 and 10-1 on Sunday, on the OU Softball Field. The Golden Grizzlies improved to 5-1 this fall.
"We really hit the ball this weekend," said OU coach Glenn MacDonald. "Our freshmen are doing a nice job, and the seniors and leading the way."
Freshman pitcher Brittany Doyle tossed five innings of no-hit softball versus Oakland C.C., striking out four. Senior Roberta Ches finished 3-for-3, with one RBI, and freshman Kylie Schalz went 2-for-3, with one RBI.
In the nitghtcap, senior hurler Jessica Granger worked four strong innings, allowing three hits and striking out four. Sophomore Alison Tansel tossed the final three innings, fanning two, while senior Julie Owen and junior Haley Emerson each went 1-for-2 at the plate.
Against U-M Dearborn, the Grizzlies pounded out 10 runs in each game. Schalz finished with three hits and four RBIs, and senior Caitlin Lynch added two hits for Oakland. Ches finished 2-for-3, with two RBIs and two runs scored. Granger earned the win in the circle, tossing five innings, striking out five and allowing just one hit.
Game two was more of the same, OU dominance. Owen and junior Ashley Sullivan each had two hits, each driving in a run to lead the offensive attack. Tansel tossed five innings and fanned four for the win, while sophomore Marisa Everitt threw the final two innings, striking out two.
The Golden Grizzlies will conlude the game portion of their fall schedule this weekend in Ypsilanti, Mich., at Eastern Michigan. OU will take on Hillsdale College at 9 a.m., and Madonna University at 11 a.m.
