Golden Grizzlies Drop 2-1 Decision to Green Bay

Box Score
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Senior Jessica Boyle tallied her second goal of the season on a feed from Kristi Evans, and the Oakland University women's soccer team (1-6-2) held a 18-5 advantage in shots taken, but the Golden Grizzlies ultimately fell short, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Green Bay Phoenix on Sunday on the OU Soccer Field. "I think we played well enough to win the game over the entire game," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "However, we made two mistakes not covering a short corner and not heading a ball that's right to us. When you make mistakes like that, you let a team in twice in the first half and they get two goals off of mistakes, you don't deserve to win." Green Bay scored in the second minute as Chelsea Lyons took a feed in front off a short corner kick and turned around a three-yard shot, giving the Phoenix an early 1-0 lead. The lead was pushed to 2-0 in the 14th minute as Laura Hayward kicked in a shot off a rebound in front of the net. OU got on the board in the 21st minute with Boyle's breakaway goal, but both teams went scoreless down the stretch as the Phoenix held on for the victory. The Golden Grizzlies held a 7-2 advantage overall in corner kicks, and a 10-1 shots advantage in the second half. OU will return to action on Monday, Sept. 29 as they host the University of Detroit Mercy on the OU Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. -30-
