ROCHESTER, Mich. - Senior Lauren Duquette tallied 15 digs, and sophomore Katy Wilson turned in a double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs, but the Oakland University volleyball team was unable to keep an offensive rhythm in a 3-0 loss to North Dakota State on Friday night at the Athletics Center O'Rena.
"I thought that we played pretty slow tonight, and we never really got into a flaw offensively and that was the difference," said head coach Rob Beam. "Statistically everywhere else things were similar. They just killed the ball much more efficiently than we did tonight."
The Bison took a close 25-23 decision in the opening set before taking 25-15 and 25-16 wins in sets two and three. The Golden Grizzlies were outhit .243 to .069 for the match, and were outblocked six to four.
"I think North Dakota State played really well," added Beam. "They hit the ball really hard, and if you can get the ball into the seam of a block, it doesn't matter how good you are as a blocking team. They kept hitting the ball into the seam, and we tried to move it around, but they kept finding it."
Sophomore Samantha Filipek also dished out 10 assists in the loss, while senior Leah Dupuie and junior Adrienne Leone both turned in seven kills.
The Golden Grizzlies will return to action Saturday against South Dakota State. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
