SHREVEPORT, La. - Freshman Deanna Colarossi scored her fourth goal of the season, and freshman Shannon Doyle and sophomore Meghan Hartwig both tallied goals as the Oakland University women's soccer team (2-7-2, 1-0 Summit League) took a 3-0 victory over Centenary (2-8-1, 0-1 Summit League) in both teams' Summit League opener on Friday.
"It was good to not only get a win but to also get a shutout," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "The team is really focused on the defensive side of things, and once we take care of business on that side of the game, we are looking for other things to happen ,and they did tonight."
Colarossi opened scoring in the 23rd minute, kicking in a shot from 25 yards out. The Golden Grizzlies extended their lead to 2-0 in the opening minutes of the second half, as Doyle took a 46th-minute feed from sophomore Melissa Hartwig, dribbling past the keeper to give OU a 2-0 advantage.
OU scored its third goal in the 84th minute as Doyle fed Meghan Hartwig at the top of the box, and she quickly sent a shot into the upper corner of the net to give OU a 3-0 lead.
Meanhwile, senior keeper Kim Herbst collected three saves en route to her first victory of the season in net. Senior Kristi Evans fired four shots, three on goal, as the Golden Grizzlies held a 16-7 advantage on shots.
OU will return to action on Sunday, resuming Summit League play against Oral Roberts. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. (2 p.m. Central time).
