FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Freshman Sarah Lynch netted a hat trick, scoring goals in the 15th, 48th, and 55th minutes, while fellow freshman Amy Trandell and seniors Jessica Boyle and Kristi Evans all netted single goals as the Oakland University women's soccer team (4-8-2, 3-1-0 Summit League) rolled to a 6-1 win over IPFW (0-13-1, 0-4-1) on Sunday.
"The team responded well from Friday's loss," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "They were very motivated this game and obviously it showed in the results. It was a good opportunity for us to get several players who haven't had many minutes lately some playing time."
The Golden Grizzlies held strong statistical advantages in every area, holding a 27-7 advantage in shots, including a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal, and an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.
OU got on the board in the 14th minute behind a one-on-one goal from Boyle off a feed from Lynch. Just over one minute later, Lynch tallied her first goal off a return feed from Boyle. In the 32nd minute, Trandell took Boyle's second assist of the day to give OU a 3-0 lead. Lynch followed with her 48th and 55th minute goals, both on assists from Lia Williamson, to give OU a 5-0 lead, before Evans capped scoring for OU on a penalty kick in the 59th minute. IPFW avoided the shutout in the 65th minute as Justine LeBlanc struck off a feed from Brittni Roy.
Freshman netminder Shannon Coley picked up her second win of the season after making three saves.
The Golden Grizzlies will return to action Friday, October 17, facing Western Illinois on the OU Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
