Box Score Brookings, S.D. (Sept. 7, 2007) ???C Oakland???s women???s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to South Dakota State in Summit League action at Fishback Soccer Park this evening. Senior Kristi Tomczyk (Clinton Township, Mich.) led all players with five shots and two shots on goal. The Golden Grizzlies opened the game on the attack, creating a scoring opportunity for Tomczyk in the 3rd minute, but she was denied by Jackrabbit goalkeeper Nicole Lograsso. Senior Courtney McCracken (Farmington Hills, Mich.) generated a shot in the 7th minute, but her attempt went over the crossbar. In the 8th minute sophomore Jennifer Curtis (Saginaw, Mich.) attempted to convert on a corner kick but hit the post on her first shot. She corralled her own rebound and got another shot away, but it was blocked by the SDSU defense and the game remained scoreless. South Dakota State took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute as Kaitlin Justice scored her first goal of the year with help from Kellyn Farrell. Tomczyk had an opportunity to tie the game in the 21st minute, but her header was blocked by a South Dakota State defender. Farrell tested OU keeper Kim Herbst (Novi, Mich.) twice late in the first half, but Herbst turned aside both attempts, keeping the Golden Grizzlies within one 1-0 at the intermission. The Jackrabbits opened the second half on the attack and Erin Kasmarik attempted to convert on a corner, but her header sailed wide and the Golden Grizzlies gained possession. Oakland attacked, setting up junior Kristi Evans (Mason, Mich.) in the 49th minute, but her shot went wide. Tomczyk had opportunity to convert a corner kick in the 54th minute, but her shot flew over the crossbar and the Jackrabbits maintained the 1-0 edge. Jessica Heine converted a penalty kick in the 72nd minute to put the Jackrabbits up 2-0. Farrell earned her second assist of the night when she set up Chelsea Lira in the 82nd minute to give SDSU a 3-0 advantage. As time wound down the Golden Grizzlies attacked, creating a chance for Evans in the 89th minute and Tomczyk in the 90th minute, but Evans???s shot was wide while Lograsso stopped Tomczyk???s bid, preserving the shutout. The Golden Grizzlies return to action Sunday when they travel to Fargo, N.D. to take on North Dakota State in Summit League action at noon at Ellig Sports Complex.
