Oakland Bats Silent at Ohio State

Game One Box Score Game Two Box Score Columbus, Ohio (Mar. 18, 2007) ???C Oakland hitters had a tough time of it today in a softball doubleheader at Ohio State, as a pair of Buckeye pitchers hurled complete-game no-hitters at the Golden Grizzlies. Ohio State took the games by scores of 9-1 and 5-0 in the only softball action of the weekend for OU. After a scoreless first, Ohio State got on the board in the bottom of the second. Courtney Pruner led off the bottom of the second with a base hit, stole second and then moved to third on another single. She then came home on a wild pitch for the first run of the game. Oakland responded with a run in the top of the third, scoring without the benefit of a base-hit. Ashley Sullivan (Trenton, Mich.) led off with a walk, moving up a base when Julie Owen (Goodrich, Mich.) was hit by a pitch. With one away the Buckeye third baseman misplayed Lindsey Frederick???s (Fraser, Mich.) grounder and Sullivan raced home to tie the game at 1-1. Ohio State then broke open the game in the bottom of the third. The Buckeyes loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a single and with one away Pruner singled up the middle to drive in a pair. The bases wound up being cleared on the play, as an OU throwing error allowed the third runner to score to put OSU up 4-1. Ohio State went on to score one more in the inning and then added four more in the fourth, with Jamee Juarez getting a two RBI double, as the Buckeyes went on to take a 9-1 lead. Ohio State pitcher Kim Reeder was in control all the away, tossing a five-inning no-hitter at Oakland, striking out nine against just two walks to pick up the win. Game two proved to me more of the same as Ohio State pitching once again shut down the Oakland bats. This time it was Juarez who pitched her way to the win. She allowed just one base runner, a leadoff walk to Alex Perrino (Clarkston, Mich.) in the second, and finished with a complete-game, 13-strikeout performance to pick up the win. Ohio State scored single runs in each of the first two innings, getting RBIs from Megan Schwab and Nycole Koyano to take an early 2-0 lead. The Buckeyes then scored three more in the third, getting a bases loaded walk and a two RBI single from Leah Ledford to account for the scoring Oakland will open Mid-Continent Conference play in its next games as it plays a three-game series at Southern Utah next weekend. First game of the series will be on Friday, March 23 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern.
