Game 1 Box Score Game 2 Box Score Rochester, Mich. (Apr. 26, 2006) ???C Oakland???s softball team turned a pair of strong pitching performances this afternoon into a pair of wins, as the Golden Grizzlies swept IPFW by scores of 3-0 and 2-1. Senior
Lisa Colores (Gilbert, Ariz.) gave OU the sweep with her two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh in game two. Senior
Laura Chomokos (Gilbert, Ariz.) and freshman
Sarah Clark (The Dalles, Ore.) both tossed complete games, with Chomokos twirling a one-hit gem and Clark surrendering only three hits in her victory. With the wins Oakland has now won eight of its last 10 going into this weekend???s series with Mid-Con foe IUPUI. Oakland (22-23) picked up the only runs it would need in game one in its first at-bat.
Lindsey Schaller (Columbiaville, Mich.) continued her strong hitting of late by leading off with a triple. Colores was then hit by the pitch to put two on, but
Camie Knorr???s (Appleton, Wis.) short fly to right was caught and the throw home was in time to cut down Schaller at the plate for a double play. Some two-out hitting then got the job done for OU.
Stephanie Zellner (Gervais, Ore.) doubled to bring in Colores and then moved to third on an infield hit by Chomokos.
Alex Perrino (Clarkston, Mich.) then plated Zellner with a single up the middle to give OU the 2-0 lead. Chomokos did not have any problem making the lead stand up, giving up just a leadoff, fourth-inning single to Kacie Stone. She sat down the final 12 hitters in order and finished the game with 10 strikeouts, increasing her school single-season record to 152 as she won her fifth straight start to improve to 14-10. Chomokos also played a part in the final run for OU, leading off the sixth with a double. Clark came in to run for her and eventually came around to score on a sac fly by
Lindsey Frederick (Fraser, Mich.). Clark started off her win in game two by retiring the first 10 hitters she faced before Stone reached in the fourth on a bunt single. IPFW???s Jenna Connelly, who also tossed a complete game in the opener, matched Clark over the first three innings, blanking OU on two hits. Oakland finally broke through for a run in the fourth, taking advantage of a Mastodon error. Chomokos led off with a single and
Caitlyn Lynch (Pleasanton, Calif.) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her over to third. The throw to first by the IPFW catcher was off the mark, however, allowing both runners to move up an extra base. Clark then brought Chomokos home with a sac fly to center for the game???s first score. IPFW (11-33) matched the OU run by manufacturing one of its own in the top of the fifth. Michelle Meighen led off with a single and was sacrificed over to second. She moved to third on a wild pitch and then came home on a ground out by Jamie Miller. From there it came down to the final inning. Clark did her job, retiring the side in order in the sixth and getting out of a first and second, one away jam in the seventh to give the Golden Grizzlies a chance in their final at-bat. Clark started things off with a single, but Connelly got the next two OU hitters on a pop-up and a strikeout. Schaller kept the inning alive, with her single to right moving Clark over to third. Colores then ended it when her pop-up to shallow center fell in for a hit. Next up for Oakland will be IUPUI, with the Golden Grizzlies and the Jaguars getting together for the first of the four-game series on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the OU Softball Field.
