Oakland Puts Three on All-Conference List

Elmhurst, Ill. (Mar. 1, 2006) ???C Post-season honors are in and the Mid-Continent Conference has named three Oakland women???s basketball players to its all-conference teams. Senior Jayme Wilson (Shawnee, Kan.) has been tabbed a first team selection for the third straight year and senior Anne Hafeli (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) graces the second team list for the 2005-06 season. Junior Nicole Piggott (Pewamo, Mich.) rounds out the list of Golden Grizzlies with an honorable mention nod. Wilson joins current OU assistant coach Katie Wolfe as the only other Golden Grizzly to earn all-league honors each of her four years at Oakland. The guard ranks third in the conference with 16.1 points per game and appears on six other Top 10 lists, including first in minutes played this year at just under 35 per contest. Wilson is also a mainstay in not only the Oakland record books, but the Mid-Con as well. She is currently sixth all-time in scoring at OU with 1,748 career points and counting, good for fifth all-time in the league. She is also fourth in the Mid-Con with 231 career three-pointers, which ranks second in the OU books. So far this year Wilson has tallied double figures in all but two games and has posted 10 or more rebounds twice. She was honored as the Mid-Con???s Player of the Week on Dec. 13 after leading the Black and Gold to a 73-71 come-from-behind overtime victory against Illinois State. Hafeli makes the all-conference list for the second time in her career and currently ranks fifth in the Mid-Con in scoring at 13.5 ppg. Throughout the season, the guard has stayed atop the league standings in free throw percentage, shooting 83.1 heading into this weekend???s tournament. Hafeli is also first in the NCAA in free throw shooting in a game, hitting 13-of-13 versus Duquesne at the Miami Thanksgiving Classic. She has additionally played her way into the record books over the last four years, ranking on several season and career lists, including 10th in scoring (1,395 points) and second in three-point attempts with 594. Hafeli is currently fifth all-time in the Mid-Con and third at OU with 220 career triples. Piggott earns her second All-Mid-Con honor and leads the team in rebounding with 5.4 boards per contest, good for 12th in the conference standings. She also ranks eighth with 12.7 points and is tied for eighth with 2.22 offensive rebounds per game. Piggott leads the Golden Grizzlies with two double-doubles this season and has posted two 10-rebound games in a row heading into the tourney. Earlier this year, she was named to the Miami Thanksgiving Classic all-tournament team and earned Mid-Con Player of the Week accolades after leading the team with 38 points for the weekend. Piggott was again voted the league???s top player of the week ending Feb. 14, averaging 20 points a game to help lead OU to a pair of conference victories.
