Box Score Tulsa, Okla. (Oct. 27, 2006) - Oakland's volleyball team ran into a buzz saw tonight as Oral Roberts overpowered the Golden Grizzlies in three games to maintain its hold on first-place in the Mid-Con standings. ORU took the games by scores of 30-6, 30-13 and 30-11. Junior
Monica Frechen (Fowler, Mich.) led OU with five kills and a pair of blocks. Oakland (1-20, 0-8 Mid-Con) struggled with its offense all night and in the first game OU committed three errors on its first three attempts as Oral Roberts (20-7, 8-0 Mid-Con) jumped out to a 10-2 lead after an ace from Thais Parada. From there Oral Roberts did not let up as it hit .424 in the game and took the win. In game two ORU did not commit a hitting error, and with its offense clicking again jumped out to a big lead at 13-4. A pair of kills from Frechen halted the Golden Eagle run and started OU on a 4-1 spurt. Oral Roberts responded by coming back with seven straight points, however, putting the game out of reach for the Golden Grizzlies. Four consecutive kills by Ori Zuzic highlighted a 9-0 run to start game three for Oral Roberts. A
Leah Dupuie (Leonard, Mich.) kill halted the ORU hot start, but the Golden Grizzlies could not pull any closer. Oakland could only string together consecutive points twice in the game as Oral Roberts went on to take the match. In addition to Frechen,
Nikki Pawson (Blilssfield, Mich.) and Dupuie also had a pair of blocks for Oakland.
Lauren Duquette (Clinton Township, Mich.) led OU with 15 digs and an ace. Zuzic finished with 14 kills without an error for Oral Roberts, adding 15 digs on defense. Oakland will finish off its conference road trip tomorrow when it plays at Centenary at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.
