Indianapolis, Ind. (Mar. 22, 2004) ???C Oakland???s men???s golf team opened the spring portion of its 2003-04 schedule with its first round of action at the Butler Spring Invitational being played at the Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Indiana. After the first round of action the Golden Grizzlies find themselves in third place with after coming in with a team score of 326, 12 shots behind the first round leader, IUPUI. Junior Brian Stuard (Jackson, Mich.) led the way for OU, firing a 77 in his first outing of the spring to place third, just one stroke off the lead. Just three shots back of Stuard was senior Ryan Yelen (Grand Blanc, Mich.) who tied for eighth with four other competitors with an opening round of 80. Another shot back at 81 was sophomore Jonathon Pauli (St. John???s, Mich.). Completing the scoring on the day for the Golden Grizzlies were freshman Charles Kluesner (Terre Haute, Mich.), who carded an 88, and freshman Rob Reynolds (Waterford, Mich.) who was one-shot back of Kluesner with an 89. Competing as an independent for OU was Ryan Schultheiss (Bay City, Mich.) who came in with an 86, tying him for 25th overall. Oakland will finish play at the Butler tournament tomorrow, March 23.
