Columbus, Ohio (Mar. 20, 2004) - Sunday's third and final day of the Ohio State softball team's Buckeye Invitational has been called off due to cold and windy conditions expected in Columbus. Oakland's
Nicole Marzano (McHenry, Ill.) and
Dana Blugerman (Holly, Mich.) were named to the all-tournament team for their performances in the Golden Grizzlies three games. Both Marzano and Blugerman provided at the plate for the Golden Grizzlies while Marzano also came up big on the mound. Throughout the three games, Marzano pitched a 2.19 ERA during 16 innings and came away with a 2-0 record. She gave up just 11 hits, five runs, and nine walks while fanning eight. From the plate, Marzano led the team with a .400 batting average after going two for five with one RBI, one run scored and one homerun (the gamewinning run against Northern Illinois). Blugerman, Oakland's third baseman, produced two hits from seven plate appearances and scored one run and had an RBI. Her batting average for the weekend was .286 which put her second behind Marzano on the team. Oakland wound up going 2-1 in the tournament, one of three teams to come away with a winning record. Ohio State concluded the tournament with a 3-0 record, while other competing teams included Michigan State (2-0), Loyola-Chicago (1-2), Northern Illinois (0-2) and Robert Morris (0-3). Next up for the Oakland will be the home opener, as the Golden Grizzlies host Eastern Michigan in a doubleheader scheduled for 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the OU Softball Field.
