Oakland Softball Drops Doubleheader to Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2004) - Oakland University's softball team dropped two games to Chattanooga on Wednesday evening in cold, rainy weather in Chattanooga, Tenn. The team dropped the games by scores of 6-0 and 7-5 to put its 2004 season record at 4-5. During the first game, pitcher Nicole Marzano (McHenry, Ill.) threw six innings allowing five hits and six rus. Chattanooga (9-6) scored all of its runs with two outs in the third and sixth innings by stringing together several singles, but two-out Oakland errors in each frame produced the most damage. Oakland???s biggest threat came in the fifth when the Golden Grizzlies loaded the bases with three hits, but Chattanooga pitcher Lacey Swarthout wiggled out of trouble. In the second game of the night, sophomore Camie Knorr (Appleton, Wis.) generated most of the Golden Grizzlies offense with three hits, two runs and four RBIs. Knorr smacked a homerun in the first inning and drilled a two-run double in the third. She then batted another homer in the seventh to put Oakland at five. On the mound for the Golden Grizzlies was freshman Korey Schluckbier (Reese, Mich.) who allowed seven runs in 5.2 innings. Marzano finished the game pitching to one hitter. Oakland is next in action on Friday when the team enters the Mercer Tournament in Macon, Ga. with its first match against Witchita State at 9 a.m.
