(Oct. 10, 2003) ???C It was not Oakland???s night in Indianapolis, as the Golden Grizzlies were late getting to their match with IUPUI and then fell in three games to the Jaguars after they got there. Heather Lippert (Walled Lake, Mich.) had 12 kills, but it was not enough as OU fell to 3-11 overall and 2-3 in Mid-Continent Conference action. IUPUI improved to 9-9 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-Con. Oakland showed a solid offense in the first game, hitting .286 overall. The two teams remained close throughout most of the game, and a kill by Lippert and a service ace from Stephanie Linz (Okemos, Mich.) knotted the score at 18-all. After that the Jaguars, which hit an impressive .472, pulled away to take the first game. Game two was tied at 10-10, but IUPUI scored eight of the next 10 points to put the Golden Grizzlies in a hole that they could not pull themselves out of. Game three was much the same, with the Jaguars again putting a run on OU during the middle of the game to put it out of reach for Oakland. Morgan Spaulding then finished out the game and the match for IUPUI with an ace. Lippert was the only Oakland player with more than 10 kills during the evening. Sara Miller (Jackson, Mich.) added nine kills, while Linz and Cortney Varterasian (Ypsilanti, Mich.) each added eight for the Golden Grizzlies. Lauren Bramos (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) reached double figures in digs with 11. Rebekah Pallikan recorded a double-double to lead IUPUI, registering 17 kills, 13 digs and three aces. Tiffany Holladay added 15 kills for the Jaguars. Oakland will play another Mid-Con match on the road tomorrow, taking on Chicago State at 6 p.m. Eastern.
