Rochester, Mich. ???C Senior Sarah Buckland (Burlington, Ontario) of the women???s soccer team was named the Mid-Continent Conference???s Women's Student-Athlete of the Month the conference announced today. Her play in goal was a key to the Golden Grizzlies Mid-Con Tournament title and its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Buckland had an outstanding month in goal for Oakland as the Golden Grizzlies won three of their four matches, including taking a second straight Mid-Con Tournament title. In the four matches for the month, Buckland allowed only three goals, posting a 0.71 GAA. In the first round game of the Mid-Con Tournament she shutout Valparaiso, making six saves. In the championship against host Oral Roberts, she allowed only one goal in 110 minutes of regulation play, and then made one save of a PK in the shootout to help OU to the win and take home tournament MVP honors. Against Michigan in the first round of the NCAA tournament she allowed just one goal, making seven saves. For the month she made 27 saves while facing 65 shots. Buckland was also a first team All-Mid-Con selection this year.
