The Oakland men???s soccer team lost to Milwaukee 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA Division I Tournament this afternoon at Engelmann Field in Milwaukee, Wis. Kyle Zenoni broke a 1-1 tie in the 61st minute with his third goal of the season in front of the home crowd of 1,800. The Panthers struck first early in the game when they converted off of a corner kick. Khaled El-Ahmad headed home Kyle Lance???s corner kick in the 5th minute for his only shot of the game. Philip Braathen (Oslo, Norway), tied the game for the Golden Grizzlies twenty minutes later. He scored his eighth goal of the season unassisted as he collected a rebound off the post and put it by Milwaukee goalkeeper Chris Dadaian. Milwaukee held a slight 5-4 shot advantage in the first half, but neither team could score the go-ahead goal before halftime. In the second half Oakland held the 5-4 advantage in shots, but it was the Panthers who were able to break the tie. Jason Perry (Southfield, Mich.), Zenoni came through for the Panthers with the game-winner. He fired a shot from eight yards out that got by Oakland goalkeeper
Jeff Wiese (Omaha, Neb.). Milwaukee held Oakland scoreless the rest of the way to come away with the victory and advance to the second round. Wiese made three saves on the afternoon. Dadaian also had three for the Panthers. This was the second meeting between these two teams this season. Oakland and Milwaukee squared off in an exhibition game back on August 18th. The Panthers won that game by a 2-0 count. Oakland closes out their season at 10-8-3. This was the team???s first trip to the NCAA Division I Tournament and the first appearance by an Oakland men???s team.
