The Oakland University men's golf team opened up the spring portion of the 2000-01 schedule on Monday at the Butler Spring Invitational. The Golden Grizzlies finished sixth after shooting a 321. Junior
Kevin Harris (Troy/Troy HS) led the OU effort as he finished in a tie for 16th after shooting 79. The tournament was originally supposed to be 54 holes, but due to weather was shortened to just 18 on Monday. The Golden Grizzlies finished behind Eastern Illinois (313), Southeast Missouri State (315), St. Louis (318), IUPUI (319) and Evansville (320), and ahead of Western Illinois (322), Detroit Mercy (322), Butler (323), Loyola Chicago (331), Bradley (332), Robert Morris (335) and Creighton (343). Gary Robinson (Jackson/Jackson HS) and sophomore
Chris King (Walled Lake/Western HS) in a tie for 19th with the 18-hole total of 80. Senior
Jason Weldy (Sterling Heights/Sterling Heights HS) shot a 10-over par 82 (t30th) and sophomore Chris Pomy (Tecumseh/Tecumseh HS) wrapped up the Golden Grizzlies scoring with an 86 (t59th). Oakland will next travel to the Ball State Invitational April 5-6.
