The Oakland University women???s soccer team fell short in a 2-1 loss to Michigan State Sunday, September 3. Oakland University falls to 1-1-1, while Michigan State improves to 4-0. OU's Kristen Luoma (Troy/Athens) scored the first goal of the game with 25 minutes remaining in the first half. The goal was unassisted. Unfortunately for the Golden Grizzlies, Michigan State responded only seven minutes later and the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie at the intermission. Michigan State's Kristi Arrington scored the deciding goal for the Spartans 15 minutes in to the second half of play off a pass from Gina Dawson. OU had eight shots, two cornerkicks, six goalkeeper saves and 16 fouls. Michigan State had 17 shots, three cornerkicks, four saves and 12 fouls. The Golden Grizzlies will next travel to the Wisconsin Tournament September 9-10 to face Wisconsin and George Mason. OU plays Wisconsin on the opening day of competition at 3 p.m. and George Mason on the 10th at 1 p.m.
