The Oakland University women???s soccer team tied Pepperdine Univeristy 2-2 in Peperdine, California on Thursday, August 31. Oakland moves to 1-0-1 and Pepperdine goes to 1-1-1 overall. Pepperdine struck first on a goal by Kate Desmond in the 18th minute of play in the first half to give the Green Wave a 1-0 lead. OU's Ashley McGhee (Burlington, Ontario/Lester B. Pearson) answered for the Golden Grizzlies with her first goal of the season from freshman Jen Tlachac (Grand Haven/Grand Haven) at the 28:28 minute mark to tie the game at 1-1. Pepperdine then struck again as Tasha Spangler beat Oakland's netminder Sarah Buckland (Burlington, Ontario/Lester B. Pearson) at the 31:28 minute mark. The Golden Grizzlies had an answer for the Green Wave for a second time as senior Kristen Luoma (Troy/Athens) scored her third goal of the season and tied the game at 2-2 on a pass from senior Gail Wilson (Burlington, Ontario/Notre Dame Prep). The goal came with :40 seconds remaining in the half and proved to be the final strike of the game. Buckland held Pepperdine scoreless for the next 70 minutes of play making 11 saves to hold onto a 2-2 tie. OU had 12 shots, six cornerkicks, 11 goalkeeper saves, and 18 fouls. Pepperdine had 23 shots, 10 cornerkicks, 11 saves, nine offsides and 14 fouls. The Golden Grizzlies will play again on Sunday, September 3 in East Lansing. They will face in-state rival Michigan State at 3 p.m.
