The Oakland University men's soccer team had nine players receive All-Mid-Continent Conference recognition, including five first teamers. The five Golden Grizzlies that were named to the first team were seniors
Viggo Anthonsen (Gjerdrum, Norway/Wang),
Gunnar Halvorsen (Gjerdrum, Norway/Wang),
Paul Snape (Liverpool, England/Liverpool),
Nick Stockyj (Shelby Township/Utica Eisenhower) and junior Inge Pederson (Klofta, Norway/Jessheim).
Adam Heinemann (Ortonville/Brandon),
Jason Perry (Southfield/Southfield),
Mike Skolnik (Livonia/Churchill) and
Anders Vollen (Oslo, Norway/Lambertsetes) all earned second team honors. Anthonsen is a repeat All-Mid-Con first teamer. The senior midfielder scored one goal and six assists for the Golden Grizzlies. He finished second in the Mid-Con in assists per match (0.43) and third in assists (6). Halvorsen earned first team honors for the first time. The senior defender helped OU lead the conference in goals against (0.89). Snape is another Golden Grizzly that earned all-league first team honors for the second straight year. Snape saw limited action for Oakland because of an injury but scored a goal in each of the last two conference games and helped OU finish first in the Mid-Con. Stockyj made the first team after another solid defensive effort this season. The senior defender started in 61 of 68 games played in and has one assist for the Golden Grizzlies this year. Pederson was selected to the All Mid-Con first team for the second year. The junior forward led Oakland with 22 points and finished third in the conference. Heinemann led the Golden Grizzly offense with six goals. The senior midfielder finished second on the team with 12 points. Perry received second team honors after starting all 16 games played in for the Golden Grizzlies. Skolnik finished the season with a 0.92 goals against average and made All Mid-Con second team. The junior goalkeeper finished in the top four in the Mid-Continent Conference in goals against (0.92-first), save percentage (.776-third) and saves (56-fourth). Vollen was one of two freshman who received all-legue recognition. The frosh forward scored five goals and one assist for a total of 11 points, third on the Golden Grizzly squad. The OU men's team is in action this weekend in Macomb, Illinois for the 2000 Mid-Continent Conference Championship. OU will face UMKC on Saturday in the first round of the tournament.
