OU Claims 1999 Soccer Buzz Awards

Soccer Buzz, the exclusive online source for women's collegiate soccer, announced its 1999 national honors for Division I soccer. Soccer Buzz named five OU players to its All National for First Year Programs team ... Kristen Luoma, Anita Rapp, Kim Moore, Anna Muccino and Holly Runstadler. Head Coach Nick O'Shea received national coach of the year honors forO'Shea entered his sixth season as Oakland's head coach in 1999. O'Shea ranked fifth in the nation going into the season among the winningest active Division I coaches that have been there for less than five years at a 61-19-3 record. Oakland finished 14-4-1 record in 1999. O'Shea used his leadership skills to bring OU its first Mid-Continent Conference regular-season championship. The 1999 season marked the first official season as a Division I program for Oakland. Junior Luoma, a native of Troy, Michigan, finished 12th in the nation in points per game (2.37) and 14th in goals per game (0.89) to receive National Player of the Year Honors among first year programs. Luoma finished her junior season with a career-high 17 goals and 45 points. Rapp (Lillehammer, Norway) used her playmaking abilities to help Oakland to a regular-season title and finished seventh in the nation in assists per game (0.71) while being named Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Year. The junior set a career-high in her junior season with 12 assists as the Soccer Buzz named her to the National First Year Team. Soccer Buzz named freshman Kim Moore (Georgetown, Ontario) to the National First Year Team for her defensive methods. Moore contributed to Oakland's six shutouts on the season. She solidified the Golden Grizzlies defense that had a team goals against average of 1.10 and a saves percentage of .838. Senior Anna Muccino (Royal Oak/Kimball) justified her move from forward to defense as the Soccer Buzz named her to the National First Year team. Muccino helped Oakland become a force in Division I and guided the team to the lowest goals against average in the Mid-Con. Senior Holly Runstadler (Rochester/Adams) finished first in the conference in goals against (1.10), shutouts (6) and was second in the Mid-Con with a saves percentage of .833. Runstadler leaves Oakland holding the record for most shutouts in a season (6) and most saves in a season with 114.
