Maurice Walker II serves as a Graduate Assistant for Student-Athlete Leadership & Engagement with Oakland University Athletics while pursuing a Master of Business Administration. He joined the Golden Grizzlies in 2026 after graduating summa cum laude from Missouri Valley College with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Sports Management. Walker was recognized as the top student in both academic programs, reflecting his commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and professional growth.
A native of Denver, Colorado, Walker began his collegiate journey at Western Nebraska Community College, where he earned an Associate degree in Accounting while competing as a student-athlete on the men’s basketball team. He transferred to Missouri Valley College to continue his academic and athletic career, developing a passion for collegiate athletics administration while balancing the demands of academics, athletics, and campus involvement.
At Oakland, Walker supports student-athlete leadership and engagement initiatives that enhance the overall student-athlete experience. His responsibilities include assisting with Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) programming, Athletics Belonging and Engagement Committee (ABEC) initiatives, leadership development programming, department events, and strategic projects that strengthen collaboration across the athletics department and campus community.
Walker is passionate about leadership development, organizational strategy, and creating meaningful opportunities for student-athletes to grow as leaders on and off the field of play. His professional interests include athletics administration, organizational culture, strategic planning, and student-athlete development. He aspires to build a career in collegiate and professional sports, with the long-term goal of serving as an NBA General Manager.
Walker believes athletics provides one of the most powerful environments for developing future leaders and is committed to creating experiences that prepare student-athletes for success long after their competitive careers have ended.
