Jared Helmic

Jared Helmic joined the Oakland Golden Grizzlies baseball staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2024 season.

He will work closely with head coach Jordon Banfield and assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Drew Huard in all aspects of recruiting, as well as working with the catchers and coaching first base on game days.

A 2012 DeWitt High School graduate, Helmic earned his bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant in 2017.

Helmic began his coaching career at his high school, spending a total of six seasons as an assistant coach for the Panthers, first from 2013-17 and again in 2021. During this time, he helped DeWitt capture four consecutive regional championships from 2014-17 and the program twice reached the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 2 State Semifinals in 2014 and 2016.

23 student-athletes Helmic coached at DeWitt went on to play baseball at the collegiate level, including former Golden Grizzly outfielder/designated hitter Michael Stygles, a Second Team All-Horizon League selection in 2021.

Building off this high school success, Helmic made the jump to college baseball by joining the Lansing Community College Stars as an assistant coach and the program’s recruiting coordinator in 2018 and returned to the role in the 2022 and 2023 campaigns.

Winning a pair of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 12 Championships in 2022 and 2023, Helmic and the Stars advanced all the way to the NJCAA Division 2 World Series in both seasons, highlighted by a third-place finish in the latter.

Averaging 15 per year, 45 student-athletes moved on to four-year institutions during Helmic’s three seasons with Lansing Community College, 21 of whom signed with Division I programs. He also helped develop six NJCAA All-Americans, punctuated by Hunter Shaw, the 2023 NJCAA Pitcher of the Year who is now in Columbus with the Big Ten Conference’s Ohio State Buckeyes.

The son of Peggy and Scott Helmic, he has two brothers and one sister. Helmic’s youngest brother, Julian, was a right-handed pitcher on the Stars’ 2022 and 2023 NJCAA World Series teams.
