Coaching career:
Receiving his bachelor’s in Business Management from Rochester University in 2000 and his master’s in Sport Management from Central Michigan in 2010, Tim Webb joined the Oakland Golden Grizzlies coaching staff in 2022, bringing 23 years of coaching and scouting experience with him.
Beginning his coaching career in 2000 as a boys’ assistant at what was then Pontiac Northern High School, Webb helped guide the Huskies to consecutive Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Class A State Championships in his first two years with the program.
After seven seasons in his role at Pontiac Northern, he became a head coach for the first time, taking the boys’ job with the nearby Auburn Hills Avondale Yellow Jackets, who reside in the Oakland Activities Association (OAA), the same league the Huskies competed in.
Spending four years at Avondale from 2007-11, which saw him capture OAA White Division Coach of the Year honors in his second season after piloting the Yellow Jackets to an 18-5 (11-2) record, Webb added another set of professional responsibilities to his plate in 2009, becoming an advanced scout for the Women’s National Basketball Association’s (WNBA) Minnesota Lynx.
Continuing with the Lynx until 2011 and adding stints with the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2011-13 and the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) G-League Bakersfield Jam from 2013-14, Webb has totaled five years as an advanced scout and video coordinator at the professional level.
Returning to high school basketball in 2014, this time in the girls’ game as an assistant for MHSAA all-time wins leader Frank Orlando at Detroit Country Day, Webb won three more state titles, collecting Class B crowns in 2015, 2017 and 2018.
Succeeding Orlando as the Yellowjackets’ head coach following his 2019 retirement, Webb coached nine National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I student-athletes during his time at Detroit Country Day, including his daughter, Kaela Webb, the team’s star point guard during their three state championship runs.
With Kaela playing collegiately for Detroit Mercy after two seasons with the Providence Friars, which saw her earn Big East All-Freshman Team honors in 2018-19, the Titans added Webb as an assistant coach, recruiting coordinator and guard development coach in 2020. Averaging 17.7 points and 2.2 assists per game under her father’s tutelage, Kaela earned a spot on the All-Horizon League Third Team as a junior in 2020-21.
In 2021-22, Webb was the associate head coach for the Madonna Crusaders in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), helping steer the program to their first postseason appearance in seven years.
Playing career:
A standout point guard himself for the Pontiac Central Chiefs, Webb further his academic and athletic careers at Rochester College (now Rochester University), making four-straight National Christian School Athletic Association (NCSAA) Final Fours, highlighted by a National Championship in 1997.
Individually, Webb was named an NCSAA All-American in 2000.
