A name known to nearly every student-athlete that has been a part of the Oakland program since 1994 is that of Dr. Sami Rifat. A member of the medical team that serves OU's student-athletes, Rifat has been a familiar face in the athletic training room and at home athletic events for many years.
Dr. Rifat has given many hours of service to Oakland athletics. He started as a team physician in 1994 with OU and was named the school's head team physician in 1998. Over the years he has attended over 350 athletic events and spent over 600 hours in the athletic training room assisting Oakland's student-athletes.
Dr. Rifat has been named one of Detroit's "Top Docs" several times and served as the physician for President Bush's visit to OU.
A graduate of the University of Michigan and the University Health Sciences Chicago Medical School, Dr. Rifat is a fellowship trained, board certified sports medicine specialist. He has authored several medical papers and co-authored "Winter Sports Medicine Handbook". He is also a clinical professor of health sciences at Oakland.
