Ray Melick has been a fixture around Lepley Sports Center since his arrival in the Rochester area in 1986. Ray originally worked for the department as a marketing intern, but his service has expanded greatly since those days. He is in his seventh year as a volunteer member of the scoring table at the Oakland men's and women's basketball games. He keeps the official scorebook for the women's games and runs the shot clock for the men's games. He also rendered valuable service as a member of the Marriott Soccer Classic Committee. He plays a major role in organizing and running the youth part of the tournament, which involves over 2,000 players and 120 teams. The tournament is a major fund-raiser for the development of the soccer facility. He is also active in helping the youth of the area by serving as a volunteer coach for the Rochester Youth Basketball program. He is a graduate of Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in recreation and psychology. Ray serves as a human resources manager at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
