ROCHESTER, Mich. - Day two of the 2026 Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships brought another strong showing for Oakland on Saturday, highlighted by a record-breaking performance from
Kylei Anderson and multiple Golden Grizzlies advancing to Sunday finals.
Anderson capped off a sensational heptathlon performance by winning the event with a school-record 5,170 points, shattering the previous mark of 4,706 points. She opened the day by winning the javelin portion of the heptathlon with a throw of 34.98m and followed with a second-place finish in the long jump at 5.58m. Anderson also advanced to the women's 100m hurdles finals after clocking a preliminary time of 14.14 seconds.
In the field events,
Jamie Giese earned a runner-up finish in the women's shot put with a best throw of 14.87m, while
Desteny DeJarnett also scored for Oakland with an eighth-place finish at 12.62m.
On the men's side,
Blake Foster secured a second-place finish in the shot put with a top mark of 16.15m.
Oakland also saw several athletes qualify for Sunday finals on the track.
Ja-Van Poole and
Austin Graham both advanced in the men's 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles. Poole posted times of 14.44 seconds in the 110m hurdles and 54.73 seconds in the 400m hurdles, while Graham crossed in 14.57 seconds and 58.07 seconds, respectively.
Evan Bryan punched his ticket to the men's 100m final after running 10.89 seconds in prelims, while
Lauren Goodman qualified for the women's 100m final with a time of 12.04 seconds.
Justice Stewart advanced to the men's 400m final after finishing in 49.39 seconds.
The Golden Grizzlies also had a strong showing in the 800m prelims.
Pierce Grzymkowski (1:52.34),
Collin McLaughlin (1:52.29), and
Tyler Donovan (1:54.62) all qualified for the men's final, while
Hannah Fisher secured a place in the women's final with a time of 2:16.12.
To close the evening,
Wesley Hollowell earned a bronze medal in the men's 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:07.68.
Anne May added points on the women's side with a fifth-place finish in 11:09.88.
The final day of the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships begins Sunday at 9 a.m.
