Softball Overpowers MSU to Continue Dominance at Home

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies defeated Michigan State 5-2 at OU Softball Field on Wednesday. This victory was particularly momentous as it marked the Golden Grizzlies' first home win over Michigan State since 2003.

Oakland recorded seven hits and four stolen bases, capitalizing on two runs in the first inning to secure the win as they improved to 12-1 at home.

In the first inning, Brooklyn Plitz singled to left center, and Kam Troyer followed with a single of her own. Both runners advanced on stolen bases before Kayla Turmell doubled to center field, driving in two runs. The Golden Grizzlies led 2-0 after the first inning.

Michigan State responded in the second inning with a triple from Holverstott. A subsequent RBI single by Caravaca brought the score to 2-1, still favoring the Golden Grizzlies at the end of the second inning.

In the fourth inning, Addison Kopp doubled, and Autumn Liebhauser's walk set the stage as she eventually stole home on a double steal by her and Annabel Power, extending the Golden Grizzlies' lead to 3-1.

The sixth inning saw the Spartans narrow the gap with Beshears scoring on a sacrifice fly, but the Golden Grizzlies answered back. After reaching on an error, Kopp and Liebhauser scored on a single by Taylor Carraway, increasing the lead to 5-2 by the end of the sixth inning.

The Golden Grizzlies maintained their advantage, and the game concluded with a final score of 5-2.

Kenna Bommarito delivered a complete game performance for the Golden Grizzlies, pitching 7 innings. She recorded 4 strikeouts and issued just 1 walk, securing her ninth win of the season with a 9-5 record. Bommarito's ability to go the distance marked a significant achievement, as it was her complete game that anchored the Golden Grizzlies' defense.

Kayla Turmell drove in two runs with a double, contributing significantly to the team's offensive efforts. Autumn Liebhauser crossed the plate twice, showcasing her ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Taylor Carraway also posted two RBIs, reinforcing the scoring lineup. Kenna Bommarito pitched a complete game, recording four strikeouts over seven innings to secure the win.

In their next game, the Golden Grizzlies will travel to Indianapolis to face IU Indy on Friday, April 10 at 1 p.m. The matchup promises to be an intriguing contest as the team looks to secure a win away from home.
