Softball Stays Close, but Falls to #7 Alabama on the Road

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Oakland fell to No. 7 University of Alabama with a final score of 8-1 at Rhoads Stadium on Sunday. 

The Golden Grizzlies managed just four hits, with its lone run coming in the third inning, while Alabama capitalized on a five-run fourth inning to secure the victory.

The second inning saw the Crimson Tide take the lead when Wells scored on a sacrifice fly by Young, putting the score at 1-0 in favor of Alabama.

In the third inning, Oakland tied the game. Storm Kentros doubled and advanced to third on a groundout. Autumn Liebhauser then delivered with a single to left, bringing Kentros home as Oakland knotted the score at one run apiece.

Alabama regained momentum in the fourth inning with a powerful offensive display. Taylor's three-run homer and Roman's two-run homer contributed to a five-run inning, pushing Alabama ahead 6-1.

The sixth inning added two more runs for the Tide. Pate singled to bring in a run, and later scored on a single by Pupillo, extending Alabama's lead to 8-1.

The game concluded with Alabama securing the win, with a final score of 8-1.

Kenna Bommarito pitched 3 1/3 innings for Oakland, allowing six hits and striking out two batters. Bommarito threw 66 pitches, with 42 being strikes, and faced 17 batters. Jessica Nelson came in for relief and pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up four hits with one strikeout.

Autumn Liebhauser recorded one hit and one RBI in three at-bats, contributing to the team's offensive effort. Kam Troyer added a hit and reached base after being hit by a pitch in two plate appearances. Storm Kentros doubled and scored a run, finishing with one hit in two at-bats.

The Golden Grizzlies continue a down south trip, playign a doubleheader at Memphis on Tuesday, Mar. 3.
