MIAMISBURG, Ohio & HAMILTON, Ohio – The Golden Grizzlies split their road trip for the second consecutive week after taking on Dayton and Miami (OH).

AGAINST THE FLYERS
Oakland (2-2) opened the weekend with a 5-2 win over Dayton (1-5) on February 7 at the South Regency Tennis Center. Freshman Charlotte Holmes and sophomore Martyna Piechowicz put the Golden Grizzlies on the board early with a 6-4 doubles victory. Juniors Edie Hammond and Emilia Jarvinen battled into extra points in an effort to clinch the doubles point, but ultimately fell 7-6 (11-9), giving the opening point to the Flyers.

In singles play, momentum swung to the Black and Gold. Hammond (6-3, 6-1) and Holmes (6-2, 6-1) swept their matches in straight sets to quickly secure two points for Oakland. All three top courts went to a decisive third set, but it was the Golden Grizzlies who prevailed across the board. Piechowicz (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) and fellow sophomore Nisa Bulut (6-2, 4-6, 6-4) each claimed the first and third sets to win their matches, while freshman Oliwia Klimas rallied from behind to take the final two sets and earn a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory.

AGAINST THE REDHAWKS
After defeating Cleveland State the previous day for its first victory of the season, Miami (OH) (2-6) followed with a 4-3 win over Oakland (2-3) in an early-morning matchup on February 8.

Piechowicz and senior Tara Montreuil delivered Oakland's lone doubles win, taking their match 6-4. The pairs of Hammond/Holmes and Bulut/Klimas both fell 6-4 to their Miami (OH) counterparts, giving the RedHawks the early lead with the doubles point.

Singles play was split between the two teams. Hammond (7-6(4), 6-3) recorded her second straight-sets victory of the weekend, while Klimas (7-5, 6-4) extended her singles win streak to four. With the RedHawks winning on courts No. 5 and 6, Oakland needed victories from Bulut on court No. 1 and Piechowicz on court No. 2 to complete the comeback. Piechowicz came through with a 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3 win, but Bulut came up just short in a 1-6, 6-4, 3-6 battle, sealing Miami (OH)'s 4-3 decision
