Track and Field Heads to Youngstown for Outdoor Conference Championships

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies prepare to take on the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, ranging from Friday, May 9 to Sunday, May 11.

Over the three day span of postseason action, the Golden Grizzlies will search for their first men's title since 2018 and first women's Horizon League Title in program history.

At last year's conference championship meet Oakland tallied seven title winners in total, four men's winners and three women's gold winners.

Throughout the season, Oakland has been a well rounded squad, having strong competitors on both sides. In the distance events, runners like Yami Albrecht, Michael Hancock, and Anthony Hancock have anchored the team, while Ashley Quinn, Grace Nolan, and Erin Hegarty look to continue dominant seasons themselves.

In the sprints and short distances, Oakland has a chance to win several events, with Ja-Van Poole on pace to take gold in the 400m hurdles, along with T.J Brooks in the 800m who has been a championship contender his whole career. Ke'Vina Finch aims to continue her dominance in the 100m and 200m, while Kylei Anderson looks to split dominance in the sprints and high jump events.

Oakland also has the muscles to flex in the field events. Alex Mansfield is a monster in the throws, looking to build upon a strong showing at last year's championships where he earned bronze in the shot put. Elizabeth Rice and Jamie Giese also want to build on their program record breaking seasons in the hammer and shot put throws.

All three days of the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be streamed on ESPN+.
