Track and Field Continues Hot Start to the Spring at Golden Grizzlies Invite

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland wrapped up their annual Golden Grizzlies Invite, securing eight event wins as their hot start to the spring continues.

The day started off with Oakland's first win in the Women's Shot Put as Jamie Giese took the top spot with a top throw of 13.88m. Desteny DeJarnett (11.78m) also competed in the event, finishing just outside the top five.

Alex Mansfield followed suit in the Men's Shot Put, with a toss of 17.18m to secure his second win in as many meets.

He would also earn a bronze finish in the Men's Discus (48.70m), while Lainee Wagner (38.17m) mirrored on the women's side.

The next Oakland triumph would come in the Men's Long Jump, where Xavier Davis (6.86m) and Evan Bryan (6.53m) finished first and second respectively as the field events came to a close.

As the track portion opened, the  Golden Grizzlies dominated in the 1500m. For the women, Ashley Quinn (4:38.36) took the top position. Erin Hegarty (4:38.83) would take second, Sarah-Rose Sullivan (4:47.15) fifth, and Karenna Duffey (4:48.42) took eighth as four Golden Grizzlies finished in the top ten. On the men's side, Yami Albrecht (3:47.36) crossed the line first, beginning what was five Oakland men's runners in the top ten. Brothers Michael (3:53.89) and Anthony Hancock (3:55.59) finished second and third, Tyler Donovan (3:59.12) finished sixth, just one spot ahead of Tristan Brandenburg (3:59.32).

Ke'Vina Finch continued to dominate the 200m, outpacing the field with a time of 25.31s. Joining her were Lauren Goodman (25.51) in third and Jaylin Washington (26.09) in seventh.

Also stringing together her second straight win was Kylei Anderson in the Women's 100m Hurdles Finals as she clocked in at 14.32s. 

In the final event of the day for Oakland, Julian Bailey took the crown in the Men's 100m Finals with a time of 10.65s.

Oakland will take a nearly two-week long break from competition before hosting the Elaine Leigh Invite on Apr. 18-19.
