Poole and Quinn Set Program Records as Oakland Finishes Elaine Leigh Invite

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies wrapped up a busy weekend at the Elaine Leigh Invite with a slew of team and individual wins in their last home meet of the season.

DAY 1

After the high school events kicked off the day, Oakland saw their first action in the 1500m races on Friday, where three Golden Grizzlies finished in the top five of the women's section as Ashley Quinn (4:31.11) crossed the finish line first, setting a new program record in the event, followed by Sarah-Rose Sullivan (4:36.54) in third and Karenna Duffey (4:47.49) in fifth. In the men's section Michael Hancock finished second with a time of 3:51.00.

The women also dominated the 5000m race as Grace Nolan took the top spot with a time of 16:46.15. They also took spots three through six as Mackenna Scott (17:44.81), Brooke Aho (18:00.15), Amy Rowan (18:04.00), and Haleigh Bissett (18:05.59) finished consecutively. 

As the field events moved into the spotlight, beginning with the pole vault. For the women Alexa Messina (3.52m) earned the highest vault, while Victoria Sanders (3.37m) had the third best.

Moving to the women's hammer throw, Jamie Giese (49.69m) earned first place, while Elizabeth Rice (44.92m) took third, and Desteny DeJarnett (43.80m) fifth. 

Closing out the day's top performances for Oakland was Xavier Davis in the men's long jump, where his best leap of 7.11m led all competitors.

DAY 2

The day opened up with a team win for Oakland as the women dominated the 4x100m relay with a time of 47.64.

Kylei Anderson scored the first individual Golden Grizzly win of the day with a win in the 110m hurdles finals with a time of 14.13s.

In the women's 100m Ke'Vina Finch (12.18s) and Lauren Goodman (12.18s) finished neck-and-neck in second and third to close out the top three. 

Quinn earned her second win of the weekend, taking the top spot in the women's 800m, crossing the line at the 2:12.83 mark. TJ Brooks took the bronze spot in the men's 800m, clocking in at 1:53.96.

Ja-Van Poole and Julian Bailey kept the momentum going for the Oakland men, as Poole outpaced the field in the 400m hurdles in a program record-setting performance, finishing in 51.55s, while Bailey earned third in the men's 200m with a time of 22.06s. Finch earned her third straight women's 200m win of the season as well, with a time of 25.48s.
The Golden Grizzlies would also continue their on-top performances in the field events, starting in the shot put. For the women, Giese finished atop another event with a throw of 13.90m, and for the men Alex Mansfield's top throw of 17.09m granted him the top spot as well.

Giese won her third event as she continued to shine as her throw of 40.75m placed her in first once again. Teammate Lainee Wagner (40.29m) finished in second.

Oakland closed the meet with a pair of wins in both the men's and women's 4x400 relay, as the women stopped the clock at 4:03.77 and the men at 3:28.44.

The Golden Grizzlies return to the road as they compete in the Penn Relays (Apr. 24) and the Louisville Clark Wood Open (Apr. 25-26) this upcoming week.
