COLUMBUS, Oh. – The Oakland softball team faced a tough challenge on the road against Ohio State, falling 10-0 in five innings at Buckeye Field. The Golden Grizzlies put up a fight, but the Buckeyes' offensive power proved too much to handle.
The Buckeyes got on the board early, scoring a run in the first inning off an RBI double. Ohio State extended their lead in the second with a three-run inning, highlighted by a two-run home run. The third inning saw the home team add three more runs, including another home run, making it 7-0. The Buckeyes sealed the game in the fourth with a three-run rally, putting the contest out of reach.
Despite the loss, the Golden Grizzlies had some bright spots.
Storm Kentros and
Kamryn Troyer each recorded a hit, while
Kenna Bommarito and
Maraina Smith took the circle, with Bommarito striking out two batters across three innings.
Taylor Carraway provided a solid defensive effort behind the plate, recording four putouts.
Despite the loss, Oakland showed flashes of strong play, particularly on defense. The team will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue their road schedule, jumping into league play against Robert Morris on Mar. 14-15.
