Track and Field Finishes Opening Action of Spring with Several Personal Bests and Top Finishes

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Golden Grizzlies Track and Field teams finish up a busy weekend, split between the NC State Raleigh Relays and Cedarville University Yellow Jacket Open.

The weekend started in Raleigh, where from Thursday to Saturday, Oakland saw nine athletes compete.

Thursday began the men's track portion, where Yami Albrecht finished with a personal best time of 14:18.15 in the Men's 5000m race. Anthony Hancock also competed in the event, posting a time of 14:30.59. Closing out a quick opening day of the spring season was Anthony Hancock in the Men's 1500m event, where he would cross the finish line at 3:56.49.

The action continued Friday in Raleigh, this time for the women as several Oakland runners shined on the track. Grace Nolan set a personal best in the Women's 10000m race, clocking in at 34:55.22. Erin Hegarty continued the trend of personal bests, reaching her own as she finished the 5000m race with a time of 16:26.86. 

Oakland would close out the weekend with some mid-distance speed on Saturday as TJ Brooks (1:52.61) and Tyler Donovan (1:52.62) finished back-to-back in the Men's 800m race.

Ashley Quinn would keep the Oakland women's team on fire, setting a personal best in the Women's 800m, finishing in 2:11.36, finishing Oakland's annual trip to the Raleigh Relays in style.

The Golden Grizzlies also sent a group to the one-day Cedarville Yellow Jacket Open, where several track and field student-athletes saw their first action of the spring.

Alex Mansfield kicked things off in the field with a top ten finish in the Discus Throw, reaching a best toss of 46.30m. He also took home the top spot in the Men's Shot Put with a best throw of 17.26m. 

As the day moved back onto the track, Kylei Anderson also earned a first place finish, clocking in a speedy time of 14.19s in the Women's 110m Hurdles to take the top spot. Ja-Van Poole followed suit on the men's side, taking first in the Men's 400m Hurdles with a time of 53.24s. Ke'Vina Finch also had a historic day in the sprints, setting a program record in the 200m Dash with a time of 24.23s.

Grace Hungerford returned to action, clocking in at 1:04.34 to take the bronze spot in the Women's 400m Hurdles as well to close out the opening action of spring for the Golden Grizzlies.


Oakland will return home next week to host the Golden Grizzlies Invite on Saturday, Apr. 5.
