Track and Field Impresses at GVSU Lints Alumni Open

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Oakland track and field team turned in a strong showing at the GVSU Lints Alumni Open on Friday, recording multiple top-five finishes and standout performances across the board.

Jaylin Washington highlighted the sprints for Oakland, advancing to the 60m finals and placing fifth with a time of 7.97. She continued her success in the 200m, also earning fifth place with a time of 26.16. Olivia Reynolds and Rylee Scheurer joined Washington in the top 10, finishing seventh (26.43) and ninth (26.60), respectively.

In the middle-distance events, Pierce Grzymkowski clocked an impressive 1:52.99 in the men's 800m to secure second place, while Joshua Cundy followed in fifth at 1:54.35. On the women's side, Sarah-Rose Sullivan took fifth in the 800m with a time of 2:17.81.

The distance races saw Erin Hegarty shine in the women's mile, finishing third in 4:57.57, while Josiah Magley placed fourth in the men's 3000m with a time of 8:38.46.

Oakland's field athletes made their mark with several podium finishes. Alexa Messina cleared 3.55m to take second in the women's pole vault, while Genna Golab placed third with a height of 3.40m. In the women's weight throw, Elizabeth Rice claimed first with a distance of 16.80m.

Alex Mansfield delivered a standout performance in the men's shot put invitational, finishing seventh with a throw of 16.69m. He added a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 16.68m. Romario Jackson also impressed, placing sixth in the men's shot put (14.67m) and eighth in the weight throw invitational (17.91m).

The track and field team returns to action next weekend as it travels to a trio of different meets. Oakland heads back to Grand Valley Friday (Feb. 14) for the GVSU Big Meet, starting at 9:00 a.m. ET, as it also makes its way to Boston for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University, Friday (Feb. 14, 10:00 a.m. ET) and Saturday (Feb. 15, 10:00 a.m. ET). Also Saturday, the team will take part in the Tiffin University Open, slated for 11:00 a.m. ET.
