INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams secured the Horizon League Championship Saturday at the IU Natatorium following an impressive final day. This extends their reign of dominance in the Horizon League, winning every title since 2014.
On the final day of competition, the Golden Grizzlies did not hold back.
Jonas Cantrell kicked off the Golden Grizzlies, winning the title in the 1650 freestyle.
Grace Albrecht continued her dominance during this championship, winning the women's 200 backstroke. Albrecht was also crowned champion in the 100 backstroke.
Harry Nicholson dominated in the men's 100 backstroke, taking the title with a time of 46.62.
In the women's 100 freestyle,
Ronja Riihinen pulled ahead of a tight race to stand on the top of the podium.
Charles Brown continued his stellar performance with another title in the men's 100 freestyle after breaking a school record in the 50 freestyle.
Christopher Palvadre showed why he has dominated all season with a Horizon League title in the men's 200 breaststroke with a time of 52.83.
Jordyn Shipps caps off an impressive season and career with an individual title in the women's 200 butterfly. On the boards,
Ellie Chalifoux earned her second title in the women's 3 meter dive. To round out the competition, the Golden Grizzlies took first place in the women's 400 freestyle relay, with
Ronja Riihinen,
Grace Albrecht,
Erika Pietras, and
Jordyn Shipps touching first. The men's 400 freestyle relay saw similar success with
Harry Nicholson,
Jack Wike,
Christopher Palvadre, and
Charles Brown bringing home the title.
With a dominant final session, the Golden Grizzlies secured the 2025 Men's and Women's Horizon League Championship. This marks
Mitch Alters second title at the helm of the program. The Golden Grizzlies dominated the individual awards for the Horizon League Championships.
Grace Albrecht was awarded the Women's Freshman of the Meet following her titles in the 100 and 200 backstroke, as well as contributions to multiple team relays.
Ellie Chalifoux earned Women's Diver of the Meet after taking first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive.
Harry Nicholson earned Men's Swimmer of the Meet following winning titles in the 100 and 200 backstroke and contributing to a Horizon League and school record in the men's 200 Medley Relay.
In his first year at Oakland, Head Dive Coach Will Brenner was awarded the Horizon League Women's Dive Coach of the Year, following
Ellie Chalifoux's dominance,
Victoria Sanders' top three finishes, and
Elizabeth Woollcott's finals appearance. Head Coach
Mitch Alters was awarded the Horizon League Men's Swimming Coach of the Year, marking his first in only two seasons, after the Men's Swim team winning this year's Horizon League Championship title by a margin of over 300 points.
