Oakland Track & Field Shines Across Three Meets

ALLENDALE, Mich., BOSTON, Mass. & TIFFIN, Ohio – The Oakland track and field teams showcased their depth and talent over the weekend with impressive performances at three meets: the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass., the Tiffin University Robinson Family Open in Tiffin, Ohio, and the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich.

Competing against some of the best athletes in the country, the Golden Grizzlies turned in standout efforts, including personal bests, podium finishes, and school records.

At the BU Valentine Invitational, the distance runners took center stage. Yami Albrecht led the charge with a school-record time of 4:01.37 in the mile, finishing 65th in a competitive field. Michael Hancock (4:06.85) and Anthony Hancock (4:08.60) also delivered strong performances in the event. In the 800 meters, Terrence Brooks Jr. crossed the line in 1:53.33, while Tyler Donovan was close behind at 1:53.57. Wesley Hollowell continued his stellar season with a time of 8:14.59 in the 3000 meters. 

On the women's side, Hannah Fisher and Ashley Quinn broke the five-minute barrier in the mile, finishing in 4:57.02 and 4:57.81, respectively. Erin Hegarty clocked an impressive 9:38.42 in the 3000 meters, while Grace Nolan capped the meet with a stellar 16:38.96 in the 5000 meters.

The Tiffin University Robinson Family Open saw Oakland dominate on the track and in the field. The Oakland women's team shone, led by Ke'Vina Finch, who won the 200 meters (:25.07) and placed third in the 60-meter finals (:7.73). Lauren Goodman followed with a second-place finish in the 200 meters (:25.56) and sixth in the 60-meter finals (:7.77). Kylei Anderson captured the 60-meter hurdles title (:8.77), while Jaylin Washington and Rylee Scheurer added top-six finishes in the 200 meters.

For the men, Julian Bailey took second in the 200 meters (22.33). Evan Bryan placed third in the long jump (6.41m) and ninth in the 200 meters (23.52).

At the GVSU Big Meet, Oakland's athletes continued to shine. Tristan Brandenburg claimed first place in the 5000m Run Section 4 with a stellar time of 14:45.31. Carter McCalister shone in Section 2 of the 5000m, achieving a time of 14:37.24 for 12th place. In the 1 Mile Run Invite, Logan Detweiler clocked 4:11.08 for 14th, while Pierce Grzymkowski (1:53.84) and Joshua Cundy (1:55.53) delivered solid performances in the 800m.

On the women's side, Karenna Duffey (2:13.55) and Sarah-Rose Sullivan (2:17.08) impressed in the 800m, while Madeline Richman secured 10th in the 1 Mile Run Open with a time of 5:02.16. Amy Rowan led the 5000m efforts with a 7th-place finish (18:24.03), followed by notable showings from Anne May, Miriam Murrell and Addison Johnson.

In the pole vault, Alexa Messina cleared 3.40m to place 16th, with Genna Golab and Allison Shelton showing promise by clearing 3.25m.

The Golden Grizzlies are back in action one last time before the Horizon League Championships as it heads to Saginaw and Ann Arbor next weekend for a pair of meets.
