ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's and women's track and field team has a busy weekend ahead, as it'll be competing at three separate meets, in three different states, across a pair of days.
The team opens the weekend at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich., tomorrow (Feb. 14) starting at 9:00 a.m. ET, along with a trip to Boston, Mass. the same day for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University, slated for 10:00 a.m. ET. The team continues on in Boston the following day (Feb. 15) as it leaves Grand Valley to make way for Tiffin, Ohio, Saturday for the Tiffin University Open, set for 11:00 a.m. ET.
The team heads back to Grand Valley after a successful meet last Saturday (Feb. 8), as it also heads back to Boston University as it visited Boston Dec. 7.
At Grand Valley last weekend, the team delivered strong performances, earning multiple top-five finishes. Jaylin Washington placed fifth in both the 60m (7.97) and 200m (26.16), joined in the 200m top 10 by Olivia Reynolds (7th) and Rylee Scheurer (9th). In the 800m, Pierce Grzymkowski was second (1:52.99), and Joshua Cundy finished fifth (1:54.35), while Sarah-Rose Sullivan placed fifth for the women (2:17.81). Erin Hegarty took third in the women's mile (4:57.57), and Josiah Magley finished fourth in the men's 3000m (8:38.46).
Field highlights included Elizabeth Rice's first-place weight throw (16.80m), Alexa Messina's second-place pole vault (3.55m), and #HLTF Men's Field Athlete of the Week recipient Alex Mansfield's strong showing in the men's shot put (7th, 16.69m) and weight throw (4th, 16.68m).
Last go around at Boston University, Michael Hancock and Yami Albrecht both competed, as Hancock raced in the 3000M race, followed by the 5000M race for Albrecht. Hancock finished 66th in the strong field with a time of 8:11.41, while Albrecht crossed the finish line with a time of 13:58.24. His time marked the first sub 14:00 indoor 5K time in program history and broke his own school record.
