EAST LANSING, Mich. — Oakland fell to Michigan State 102-41, at the Breslin Events Center. The Spartans capitalized on 33 Oakland turnovers, converting them into 43 points to secure the victory.
Oakland opened the game with a layup from
Filippa Goula to briefly tie the score at 2-2.
Angie Smith then kept the game close with a fast-break jumper, leveling the score at 4-4. However, the Spartans gained momentum, fueled by Theryn Hallock's three-pointer at 5:28. Blair continued to carry a heavy load for MSU, closing the first quarter with a jumper at the 0:07 mark, helping Michigan State secure a 22-8 advantage at the end of the quarter.
Michigan State took control in the second quarter, outscoring Oakland 31-14. The Golden Grizzlies would shoot 5-for-13 from the field in the frame, but MSU held an efficient attack, going 12-of-17 from the floor as Oakland trailed 22-53 at the half.
Makenzie Luehring opened the third quarter for Oakland with an and-one conversion at 9:44, but the Spartans quickly responded with a layup from Jones at 8:48, helping MSU enter the final period with a 84-35 lead.
Layla Gold provided some offense for Oakland with two three-pointers in the frame, with assists from Luehring and
Cali Denson, but it was not enough to shift the momentum.
Despite efforts from Goula, who scored a three-pointer early in the final quarter, the Spartans' defense kept the Golden Grizzlies at bay.
Aalyssa Rogers managed to convert a layup and a free throw for Oakland, but the Spartans finished the game with a commanding 102-41 victory over Oakland.
Layla Gold scored a team-high 13 points (4-for-10 FG), making three of six from beyond the arc, and collected six rebounds. Luehring added five points and recorded four assists. Goula tallied eight points and grabbed three defensive rebounds.
Angie Smith contributed six points while securing five total rebounds.
Ilris Aworet also saw her first minutes of the season, recording three rebounds in seven minutes.
Looking ahead, Oakland will travel to face St. Thomas (Minn.) on Wednesday. The game is set to tip off at 2 p.m. ET at Schoenecker Arena in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
