ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies take home wins in their Friday night showdown against the Cleveland State Vikings. On Senior Day, Oakland Swim and Dive dominated heading into Horizon League Championships.
The men's swim and dive teams earn a dominant win, posting a score of 195-105. The women's teams hold on, winning by a score of 163-137.
To begin the match, the women's 200 yard medley relay got off to a great start, with the Golden Grizzlies taking first and third place.
Grace Albrecht,
Isabella Gary,
Jordyn Shipps, and
Ronja Riihinen come in with a time of 1:43.68. In the men's 200 yard medley relay, Oakland took the top two spots on the podium, earning critical points early.
Auben Nugent,
Christopher Palvadre,
Sofus Balladone, and Charlie Brown post a top time of 1:28.98.
In the women's 200 yard freestyle, the Golden Grizzlies swept the podium, with
Kelley Hassett securing first (1:53.39),
Mia Englender earned second (1:53.40), and
Viviane Partridge took third ( 1:55.34). The men's 200 yard backstroke featured
Jonas Cantrell taking first with a time of 1:41.20 and
Hill Harchelroad secured third with a time of 1:43.25.
Grace Albrecht secures first place in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 55.76. In the men's 100 yard backstroke, the Golden Grizzlies swept once again, with
Harry Nicholson,
Max Haney, and
Dane Charleston earning important points.
In the men's 100 yard breaststroke,
Christopher Palvadre secured first with a time of 55.19. Alex Lakin finished shortly after with a time of 56.69 to take second. In the women's 200 yard butterfly,
Jordyn Shipps,
Rhianna Hensler, and
Ajete Eggers swept the podium for the Golden Grizzlies. On the men's side,
Auben Nugent narrowly missed the top spot, coming in second less than half a second behind first place.
Archer Jankoviak took third place with a time of 1:51.98. The men's 50 yard freestyle featured another sweep from the Golden Grizzlies, with Charlie Brown,
Harry Nicholson, and
Sofus Balladone earning their respective spots.
Micah Scheffer got the win in the men's 100 yard freestyle with a time of 45.32 with Charlie Brown on his heels, coming in second with 45.47.
Erika Pietras dominates the women's 500 yard freestyle, taking first place (5:06.33) with a five second lead. In the men's 500 yard freestyle, the Golden Grizzlies not only sweep the podium, but take the top four spots, leaving no room for the Vikings. In the women's 100, the Golden Grizzlies sweep the podium, with
Jordyn Shipps in first,
Rhianna Hensler in second, and Kate Teng in third. Headed into the final stretch of the meet, this sweep was critical for the Golden Grizzlies.
On the men's side, the Golden Grizzlies pulled away, earning the top four spots in the 100 yard butterfly, courtesy of
Sofus Balladone,
Micah Scheffer,
Archer Jankoviak, and
Auben Nugent. The women's 400 yard individual medley showcased
Mia Englender taking second place (4:30.24) and
Kelley Hassett secured third (4:30.82). The women's 400 yard freestyle relay earned the Golden Grizzlies critical points courtesy of
Ronja Riihinen,
Grace Albrecht,
Sam Thiessen, and
Jordyn Shipps.
On the boards,
Ellie Chalifoux showcased her talents once again, taking first place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 293.78.
Elizabeth Woollcott takes third place with a score of 237.23. In the 1-meter dive, Edin DeHooghe came in third place with a score of 278.85. For the women,
Victoria Sanders takes second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 262.35.
Liam James took third place with a score of 228.83 on the 3-meter.
Next up for the Golden Grizzlies are the Horizon League Championships in Indianapolis, February 19-22.
