ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies men's and women's track and field team return to action this weekend as it heads to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Invitational, set for tomorrow (Jan. 17) and Saturday (Jan. 18), along with the Mastodon Invitational Saturday (Jan. 18) in Fort Wayne.
The team last competed in the beginning of December with a trio of meets, with the GVSU Holiday Open and SVSU Holiday Open opening up the season Dec. 6. The teams secured 16 top-5 finishes, three event wins and four new school records.
Ke'Vina Finch dominated on the track, winning the 200m with a school-record 24.66 and the 60m in 7.58. Tyler Donovan set a school record in the 800m (1:51.35), followed by teammate Terrence Brooks Jr. in second (1:51.93). Alex Mansfield (shot put, 17.52m) and Romario Jackson (weight throw, 19.37m) added two more records in field events. In distance races, Madalyn Agren placed second in the 3000m (10:51.01), while Allison Shelton led the pole vault with a fifth-place finish (3.32m).
Following the pair of meets, Yami Albrecht and Michael Hancock were the sole two to compete at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. Hancock competed in the 3000m race and finished with a time of 8:11.41, as Albrecht broke his own school record for the fastest 5K time with 13:58.24. His time marked the first sub 14:00 indoor 5K time in program history.
The Vanderbilt Invitational, set for Friday and Saturday, consists of 40 different schools/programs and will be streamed live on SEC Network+. The first event of Friday starts at 10:00 a.m. ET, with the meet starting Saturday at 9:30 a.m. ET.
The Mastodon Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne, is set to begin on the field at 11:00 a.m. ET, with the final event of the day at 6:15 p.m. ET.
